My name is Nico Fournier. I am a volcanologist and Head of Volcanology at GNS Science, in New Zealand. Our team is responsible for monitoring volcanoes in New Zealand through the GeoNet project and we also conduct research on volcanoes via a range of funding streams (MBIE, EQC, Marsden) and provide commercial services related to volcanoes and natural hazards (e.g., improvement of volcano monitoring capabilities in developing countries).

Beyond volcanoes, I am passionate about mountains, the outdoors and the environment. I spend as much time as possible frolicking in the mountains, whether running (slowly), climbing (badly) or walking (rather distractingly). I am a firm believer in actions and in "walking the talk". If one thinks about doing something, one should probably do it. Now.

It isn’t what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.
— Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility
